Guwahati: The Guwahati Police on Thursday detained several leaders of Trinamool Congress (TMC) for carrying out a protest outside Radisson Blu Hotel in the city.

The protest comes in the wake of Shiv Sena MLAs from Maharashtra led by state minister Eknath Shinde camping in the hotel.

To avert any untoward incident, the Assam Police has taken over the security from the hotel's private guards. The security has been tightened to such an extent that even media persons are not allowed inside the hotel.

On Thursday morning, the workers of TMC-led by the party's state president Ripun Bora gathered outside the hotel and started protesting against the rebel MLAs.

However, soon the protesting TMC leaders and workers were detained by the police.

"Around 20 Lakh people in Assam are suffering due to the flood. But CM (Himanta Biswa Sarma) is busy toppling Maharashtra government," media quoted a detained worker as saying.

Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is in trouble and on the verge of collapse after rebellion Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has demanded to step back from the alliance between the NCP and Congress in the state.

Shinde has also claimed that he has the support of 40 MLAs, including some independents.

Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, three more MLAs --Deepak Kesakar, Mangesh Kudalkar, and Sada Sarvankar-- joined the Shinde's camp in Guwahati.

Reportedly, the three MLAs took a morning flight from Mumbai to Guwahati.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday night vacated his official residence with an emotional appeal and also offered to quit the party.
